Although update 1.2 has been available for a few weeks now in Genshin Impact, some quests continue to give some players a hard time.
This is the case of the "In the Mountains" quest during which you'll have to survey the new region of Dragonspine to find and destroy three shards.
If at first glance the mission doesn't seem to be particularly difficult, the reality can be quite different if you don't inquire properly beforehand.
Before going on the hunt for the fragments, you'll first have to find Iris. She's the one in charge of thawing the shards, responsible for the strong winds present in the region.
First Shard
To find the shards, Iris advises us to follow the strange blue plants. Paimon will react directly to the proximity of these plants.
The quest first proposes to start your investigation by going to the permafrost tree's surroundings. Don't forget to activate the teleporter present just next to it!
Once there, a frozen fragment faces you. It's surrounded by several blood crystals. You'll need them as they increase your damage and allow you to thaw the shard more easily.
For this first step, there are no particular challenges or obstacles. You simply need to loot the crystals and destroy the fragment. Keep in mind that every time you loot a crystal, you have to give the frozen fragment a blow.
Once thawing is complete, an orb will appear. Its activation will trigger the growth of the permafrost tree. It will allow you to obtain different rewards by offering it an exponential number of purple agates.
Second Shard
Now head to the western part of the area, not far from the buried city. If you haven't already done so, remember to unlock the teleporter just to the north.
Not far away you'll see a layer of ice, surrounded by five pillars. To solve the puzzle you'll need a Cryo character because you'll have to freeze the pillars one after the other in a specific order.
Notice that a warm spirit is present in the area. If you observe its movements quickly you should notice that it flies from pillar to pillar, indicating a path to follow.
Freeze the abutments to reveal a precious chest. Deactivating the pillars will awaken a guardian present nearby. You'll of course have to destroy him. This will cause the ice layer between the pillars to crack. Jump into the hole.
You'll normally find yourself in an area filled with ice with a frozen fragment in the center. To be able to break the shard, you'll have to loot four blood crystals. For the fourth one, you'll have to open the portal by leading the heat spirits to the braziers on either side of the portal.
Third Shard
To finish, direction the caves of the south of Dragonspine — at the site of the teleporter. Follow the way and walk through a series of tunnels until you reach a huge cave. Don't take any particular path, just go straight to the edge of the precipice in front of you. You should see the third shard at the bottom.
Here again you'll have to loot four blood crystals to overcome the ice. Also remember to direct the heat spirits to the braziers to unlock several chests — even if you're around, you might as well take advantage of it.
Just start the challenge in the area. You'll need to defeat several enemies within three minutes. Collect the rewards from the precious chest and then head to the various blood crystals to thaw the shard.
There you go, you've thawed all three shards! As a reward for your hard work, you'll receive the modest sum of 30,000 Mora, 60 Primogems, 3 Hero's Wit and 3 Mystic Enhancement Ore.
