FFXIV: What is the best way to get Haunting Memories of the Dying?

If you're looking to upgrade your Relic after the deployment of Patch 5.45 of FFXIV, this is the quickest way to farm Haunting Memories of the Dying and Vexatious Memories of the Dying.

FFXIV: What is the best way to get Haunting Memories of the Dying?

With Patch 5.45 making its way to Final Fantasy XIV, the Save The Queen Relics can be upgraded once more — and the process can take a while.

Or, at least, they used to take a while. A new hotfix has lessended the burden on the Memories farm.

FFXIV Patch 5.45 Relic Weapons, Resistance Weapons Upgrade Guide

With Patch 5.45 the new Relic Weapons upgrades are now available in Final Fantasy XIV. Here's how to get the Loathsome Memories of the Dying and upgrade your Resistance Weapons.

After the first step of upgrading your Relic in Patch 5.45, the quest will ask you to farm two new items:

 • 18 Haunting Memories of the Dying
 • 18 Vexatious Memories of the Dying

Right after this new step of the relic was added, and people finished farming 15 Alliance raids to get the first step down, the drop rates of these two Memories was so bad that the HS and SB Alliance raids were chosen by many players.

However, it is now certain that farming FATEs in Gyr Abania and Othard is by far the quickest way to get this step of the relic done.

In fact, the average number of FATEs needed to drop just one Memory is anywhere between one and three at most.

Of course, this number is a general idea, as you never know if the drop rate will favour you or not. From my experience of farming these after the hotfix with other players, farming 18 of them took a little over an hour. I had poor luck for some time, while a party member kept getting several in a row.

Either way, this method soon became the quickest way to farm Memories for your Relic.

If you have any luck or stories about this round of farming, feel free to share them in the comments section below — i'd love to know how the Relic grind went for you!

Yeah, nowhere near that lucky. Both raids are queuing in barely 10 minutes now because the drop rates are so bad. Also, your math is WAAAY off here, both statistically, and by amount of time to even do this stuff.

"between one and three," and then saying "this number is a general idea," is a solid indicator of just how misleading that is. The math behind it doesn't even close to make sense. You're saying generally there is a 33% chance of the drop, meaning probably not really 33% no skin off of our backs. I ran 12 fates and recieved 1 drop, this was between queues for the raids which at least gaurantee you one.

Also, how the hell did you do at least* 18 fates in a little over an hour? That is 3 minutes a fate with flying time from point to point, zone changes, fates actually being active, etc. If you said almost 4 hours not including travel time between fates, and them popping I still probably would not believe this.

Yeah I got something to say about this guide, I call shenanigans on your claim of the average number of fates needed for one memory is between one and three at most. I shit you not I just finished grinding fates in that area for 2 and a half hours. I have 2 memories to show for it even with a party the whole time.

I just started today doing fates 5 hours in and I got 3 drops. So what buff is the article talking about?

Personally my luck hasn't even been remotely close to yours by a mile. At 2 1/2 hours and have only gotten 9 so far. so about 1 in 10
