When you first start Monster Hunter Rise, you will not have several complete sets of armors and weapons at your disposal that will allow you to go hunting Rathalos or Diablos. You will first be asked to kill big and weak monsters like the Great Izuchi or the Kulu-Ya-Ku.

Fight against the Kulu-Ya-Ku

As one of the first big monsters you will have to hunt, the Kulu-Ya-Ku is not a very formidable opponent. Despite its relatively small size, it is not overly agile or mobile. Just avoid staying in front of him and attack from the flanks.

The Kulu-Ya-Ku has a special little ability: digging into the ground and pulling out a pot or a rock that will serve as both a shield and a blunt weapon. The chances of being stunned are very high.

It can also throw the item at you from far away. You can force it to drop it by blinding it with a Flash Bomb or by knocking it down. The item it is holding can also be broken by repeatedly attacking it. Doing so should drop a bonus item to pick up.
