From ranged weapons to gathering tools, ammunition to Proficiency Boosters, what's the best way to level up your Engineering skill in New World? This guide helps budding engineers reach their maximum potential.
This New World trade levelling guide focuses on Engineering, the profession that allows players to craft ranged weapons, ammunition, gathering tools and Proficiency Boosters for better farming of resources.
While there are several ways to increase proficiency, it will help those who want to level up their Engineering skill without committing too many resources to unnecessary recipes.
NOTE: New World recipes such as those below simply ask for materials of a certain tier, e.g. "Tier 2 Metal, Refined Wood" etc.
We've listed the more common material as it's usually cheaper/easier to obtain. However, prepare for a very, very significant grind.
For example, where we've put 'Coarse Leather', you could use Rugged Leather, Ragehide, or even epic materials such as Scarhide. The same goes for the Metals - you could use Iron Ingots or Fae Iron, although naturally you'll want to save your rare resources!
The type you use will affect the overall gear score of the piece.

Treated Wood Fishing Pole x55
One Treated Wood Fishing Pole requires:
○ x12 Timber
○ x3 Coarse Leather
○ x2 Linen
This recipe is simple enough, with the only real spend being time. Cut down trees for Green Wood to refine into Timber, skin all the creatures you can to claim Rawhide for Coarse Leather, and gather Hemp whenever you see it for the Fibers, which refines into Linen.

Aged Wood Fishing Pole x160
One Aged Wood Fishing Pole requires:
○ x13 Lumber
○ x3 Coarse Leather
○ x2 Linen
Again, this is relatively easy to craft, although you'll need to have leveled up your Logging to at least 50 to access Mature Trees for Aged Wood, which you'll turn into Lumber.
You'll find Sandpaper when opening crates and chests,

Wyrdwood Fishing Pole x284
One Wyrdwood Fishing Pole requires:
○ x14 Wyrdwood Planks
○ x3 Coarse Leather
○ x2 Linen
This is where farming for materials becomes a bit more intensive. You're going to need Wyrdwood Planks, which means you'll have to get to Logging Skill Lv. 100 to source the Wyrdwood.
Leather and Cloth remains the same -- while it's recommended to use Scaly Hides and Silk for better results and maximum Gear Score, for power-leveling Engineering you're fine using Coarse Leather and Linen.
As you can see, this isn't a particularly time-efficient way to go about things. So...
The alternative way to level Engineering
This method focuses on making multiple different items, and claiming higher XP per unit. It could prove to be more intensive, but it sticks to only needing a few, more basic resources that you can gather while questing.
One bonus to this is that you may well be able to sell these on the Trade Post for a profit, depending on demand.
