You've been waiting for it for dozens of hours. During the first fight against Thor, during the introduction of God of War Ragnarök, you could not finish the job. After fighting alongside him several times, at the controls of Atreus, it's up to Kratos to calm the angry alcoholic at the end of the story, and show who is the better god of the fight.
The objective of this guide, as well as all those dedicated to bosses, is to help you beat them on maximum difficulty, "Only God of War", so that they are relevant for all levels.
Equipment
If you've already cast Ragnarök, it's too late to explore the world. But if you test the waters in advance, we advise you to carry out all the additional activities available, especially at a high level of difficulty. Having gear level 7 or 8 seems like a good choice, if you don't want to die too much.
Surely you have your preferences, but we suggest that you use the following runes in your Talisman:
- Increased dodge distance : Absolutely vital for getting out of areas of effect quickly.
- 25% resistance to all ailments : This often makes the difference between a special effect triggering on Kratos or not. In this case, it's lightning.
-
Reduced Rage Cost and Cancellation of Fury : Absolutely fantastic, this allows the use of the activating stun explosion of Spartan Rage: Fury to interrupt painful attacks, or even remove an ailment. It also allows you to drain a little of your overflow of rage if necessary, without spoiling it.
Consider buying a Resurrection Stone from the blacksmith (Major or Berserker). But it is better to keep it for the next fight, you will not have the opportunity to buy one between two.
List of attacks and how to counter them
It's not a surprise, but Thor uses some of the attacks already encountered during the initial fight, we are not going to come back to them here. The combat is quite different, however, as there are quite a few formidable new abilities to deal with.
Ground Strikes (red attack) : From the second phase of the fight, when Thor is surrounded by an electric aura, he begins to use this ability. As during the previous fight, he hits the ground several times, which causes red circles to appear there, which will be struck by lightning. You can still attack him in melee, his hammer blows do no damage. It is especially necessary to be wary of the zones of lightning left on the ground for a few seconds, they are quite painful. Manage your movements well, and avoid having one behind you.
Lightning Burst (Blue Attack) : Thor charges an attack and begins floating above the ground. It is absolutely necessary to interrupt this attack with a shield blow, the damage is immense. This means that you have to be quite aggressive, and never be too far from the boss, almost on pain of death.
Aerial Dive (Red Attack) : Perhaps in reference to superhero movies, Thor takes flight before landing on you with the signature pose. The impact is indicated by a large red circle, then an explosion. So it's pretty easy to dodge when you expect it. You just have to be prepared for it, since he tends to send it immediately after another attack, such as Ground Strikes, which can surprise you.
Aerial hammer throw (red attack) : Thor jumps then throws his hammer in your direction, it is important to dodge from behind . In effect, a lightning hex will be formed around you on impact. If you dodge forward or sideways, you'll end up in the electric zone, while backing up, you'll be right in the center of the safe zone.
Multiple Transfer : Thor spins around you several times quickly, switching places with each throw of the hammer. It's not dangerous in itself, at least before the end. It will trigger an electrical wave on the ground in your direction. You have to turn the camera quickly to follow him with your eyes, and then dodge when he finally attacks.
Multiple Hammer Throw (Red Attack) : Mjöllnir's throw was by far Thor's most dangerous and difficult to dodge attack. It's even worse now, since he's going to send it several times in a row. The trick is to dodge sideways at the last moment, which takes practice and a good sense of timing. Try to get closer to Thor as quickly as possible, then it's much easier to dodge.
As usual with story mode bosses, there are multiple phases, with just as many save points, so defeating Thor isn't particularly difficult, with a bit of practice.
