The decision to move the Call of Duty League to online matches comes as other esports leagues such as the LCS, LCK, LPL and the Overwatch League have all confirmed changes to their usual live event experience.
All the matches will be played online and will be broadcast via the COD League YouTube channel.
The full statement made by the CDL can be found below:
The next Home Series was to be Dallas on March 24th. Now that is going to be changed, it adds an entirely new dimension to the league, with custom game servers being heavily criticised due to a tick rate of only 12Hz.
It will be interesting to see what the league does to make online competition as fair as it can possibly be, considering online and offline Call of Duty is often like playing two entirely different titles.
Hopefully the league operations are in contact with Infinity Ward to make some sort of improvement before the next stage of the league gets underway in unusual circumstances.
Health and safety of all who are involved in the league is top priority and fans should be grateful that the league is able to continue in some capacity.
A revised schedule is expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.
