In MMOs there are always different types of servers. Some like variety and choose PvX servers (PvPvE), while others prefer to battle other players non-stop on PvP servers. There are those who prefer a more relaxed way of playing, opting for PvE servers, while a minority await RP servers with baited breath.
However, it now seems Amazon Games aren't quite willing to cater to all of the above groups.
This Reddit post by electro_lytes shares information provided by a developer, which states New World will not have dedicated PvP servers from the start. At the moment, PvP servers raise problems between the necessary support and developmental resources.
The most important point in particular is the fact that PvP servers would eventually mean another version of New World entirely, one PvE and the one PvP. The devs aim to provide content long-term, and it would prove to be too difficult to keep all players happy across two completely different versions of the game.
In other words, having dedicated PvP servers would require specific updates for each version, essentially doubling the workload. It's a titanic job the devs are just not prepared to take on.
Should PvP servers become reality, the community would be completely divided -- and doing so would be a mistake in their eyes, since PvE also has some importance for PvP and vice versa.
However, if players want PvP content, expect Amazon Games to come up with new activities to satisfy these players. After all, the alpha and beta tests have shown that they are listening to the community.
While there's no indication that PvP servers will ever come to pass In the dev team's post, in an MMO with the scale and ambition of New World, ultimately the playerbase will decide.
