Sony have revealed the different editions of upcoming blockbuster Horizon Forbidden West, and people are not happy.
There are five different options available for Guerilla's open-world sequel:
- Standard Edition ($59.99 PS4, $69.99 PS5)
- Special Edition ($69.99 PS4, $79.99 PS5)
- Digital Deluxe Edition ($79.99)
- Collector's Edition ($199.99)
- Regalla Edition ($159.99)
However, unlike Microsoft and their efforts to deliver next-gen upgrades through Smart Delivery, Sony appear to have taken a step back with Horizon Forbidden West, with the Standard and Special Editions not benefitting from Dual Entitlement.
How to access the PS4 and PS5 versions of Horizon Forbidden West
This means players will have to purchase the Digital Deluxe, Collector's or Regalla Editions of the game should they want to first play on PS4 and then upgrade to the PS5 version -- with all its graphics and hardware upgrades -- later on.
There appears not to be a paid upgrade option for the Standard or Special Edition titles, either, with an official FAQ stating only the three more expensive options will see a path to PS5.
Of course, players who opt for the PS4 version will still be able to play the title on the PS5, but only via backwards compatibility. Naturally this has caused an uproar on social media, with Horizon trending on Twitter as a result.
Perhaps Sony will reevaluate this later, but for now, it seems PS4 players are stuck paying $80 should they want the next-gen experience.
