The Call of Duty Modern Warfare minimap has become the topic of conversation within the Call of Duty community, especially among professional players. It had been removed at the beginning of the first weekend of the Modern Warfare beta, and has since returned.
The professional players had a lot of discussions and showed their dissatisfaction with the lack of a minimap that was not present for the majority of the first weekend of the beta. The fact that Infinity Ward made this decision caused backlash on social networks, with the community asking for it to be added.
The developers have taken the feedback on board, suggesting that its permanent return may happen. However, it only shows allies, and no enemies are shown even if they fire their weapons. Previously, opponents' fire was shown in order to determine their location. This was a valuable element to guide you on the map.
Without this map, it feels too much like the newly introduced Realism Mode, which offers no Heads-Up Display (HUD) and an increase in the time to kill. That's why Ashton Williams, Infinity Ward Communications Manager, decided to put an end to this general frustration on the part of the players by explaining that the developers are working on a compromise regarding the minimap.
As the beta heads into its second week, beginning September 21, the minimap is expected to remain a feature of the HUD.
