Pokemon Sword and Shield will have 18 Gyms with Major & Minor Leagues

Thanks to a Game Informer interview with Game Freak, new information has come to light on Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Pokemon Sword and Shield will have 18 Gyms with Major & Minor Leagues

Like the 18 types of Pokémon that exist today, there will be 18 Gyms in the Pokémon Sword and Shield games. To follow the British theme, the developers were inspired by an iconic sport in that country — football. We had already noticed this theme in the trailers and different images released thanks to the trainers wearing jerseys, the spectators with an atmosphere of madness, and live broadcast..

Today, thanks to Game Informer, we have learned that the 18 Gyms will be divided into the Major League and Minor League. This is where the two versions will complement each other in a more advanced way — the Major League Gyms that will be present in Shield, will then be Minor League Gyms in Sword, and vice versa. This has not been confirmed but it would seem logical that we have 9 Major League arenas and 9 Minor League arenas.

Director Shigeru Ohmori, confirmed that the Fighting Type Gym will be in Major League in the Sword version, while the Ghost Type Gym will be in Major League in Shield.

For the moment, we do not know which bonuses will be granted according to the importance of the League, but this will have a very strong influence on the choice of version in November.

No more HMs but Exp Share is back

As emblematic objects of the Pokémon franchise, HMs will still not make their return in the new game. On the other hand, the Multi Exp will be there.
