Activision Blizzard Esports have announced the starting date for the inaugural season of the Call of Duty League (CDL), the city-based franchise league for Call of Duty esports.

The first event of the 2020 season will be hosted by the Minnesota Røkkr, operated by WISE Venture Esports.

All 12 franchises will be competing across three days along with additional fan and player experiences to celebrate the launch of the new league.

"We are thrilled with the continued growth of the Call of Duty esports footprint as an international, city-based league with 12 teams in 4 countries, all of which deliver epically entertaining competition to millions of fans around the world. Building on our city-based model’s success in esports first established by the Overwatch League, we are excited to unite the historic passion for the Call of Duty franchise with city-based fandom to create a league to rival the very best leagues in traditional sports in recognizing, celebrating and rewarding our players.”

The launch weekend of the league will also feature the first Call of Duty Challengers Open, where amateur teams from across the globe will compete for a share of a dedicated prize pool of over $1 million USD.

Competition for Challengers starts at the beginning of November through online ladders and tournaments. Team passes for the opening tournament of the season are set to go on sale in early December so be quick if you want to get your hands on one!

Stay tuned for all the latest Modern Warfare and CDL news!
