Fat Chocobo — Battle Intel Report 10

Fat Chocobo used to be just a random appearing randomly when summoning Choco/Mog in the original. Now the adorable bird gets its own fully-fledged Summn Materia. It's also useful for being one of the few Summons to deal non-elemental damage.

Like Shiva, this one is unlocked by Chadley by undertaking Battle Intel Report 10.

Fat Chocobo — Boss Fight Strategy

Despite the size of this chunky fellow, Fat Chocobo isn't all that difficult — in fact, he can be dealt with solo if you have the right setup and are careful.

First of all, he deals mainly in physical attacks, so putting SP into Defense on your weapons, using Barrier spells, or equipping the Steadfast Block Materia to help when you guard are all incredibly useful.

Thankfully, his attacks are generally telegraphed by what he exclaims beforehand, giving you the chance to dodge or guard as appropriate.

Roly-Poly is particularly annoying. It sees him roll across the screen, hitting you for a decent amount of damage and knocking you to the ground. If you're near to the edge of the arena, this can hit multiple times. Guarding here seems to be the best option, and stay in the center of the arena.

Wark sees him throw items at you, which you can just avoid by positioning behind him. Boom and Whack are body slams, while Bombs Away has a massive range — just dodge these.

Watch out for Kweh.. at around 1/4 HP, and heal your party to max as soon as you see it appear — this is a warning for the Kerplunk ultimate, which is unavoidable and can deal some pretty hefty, fight-ending damage, even upwards of 3000 HP.

If that wasn't enough, Fat Chocobo also has a Moogle companion, with attacks of its own — and which can't be attacked. It performs Fingers crossed, kupo! — which is a bomb from which a random creature appears to help out:

  • Tonberry
  • Carbuncle
  • Bomb
  • Cactuar
  • Baby Chocobo

These are adds you can take down easily, helping increase ATB charge. Don't let too many of them remain on the field, or you'll quickly be overwhelmed!

Keep plugging away at Fat Chocobo and he'll eventually Stagger — he's more susceptible after Kweh kweh! Use your Summon Materia as soon as that happens, .

As long as you keep yourself healed well, this fight shouldn't be too difficult.
