In Breath of the Wild, cooking can be like alchemy: Link can take up to five ingredients in his arms to transform them by cooking (wood fire/marmite). The principle is simple: you will have to find recipes that will take advantage of the effects of certain ingredients (herbs, mushrooms, spices). In concrete terms, the ingredients are classified into two categories: those that will give a special effect to a dish and the catalysts that will complete the transformation.
For example, if you want a dish that protects from low temperatures, take four peppers to get a good level of temperature increase and mix it with a piece of meat to increase the duration, effect and number of hearts restored. The mechanics are the same for remedies except that herbs/spices must be replaced by insects/frogs to be mixed with monster organs. Finally, please note that the effects are not cumulative and only one of them can be effective per dish.
Regional specialities
When you plan to have big cooking sessions, go around the villages of Hyrule that you know and buy local specialities: generally these are the only places where you can find them, such as the special spices of the Gorons. These delicacies will obviously be used to make dishes with better effects on you.
Auto cooker
Do you want to grill meat or freeze it? All you have to do is place it in the right areas: on the volcano to grill it or on the top of a snow-covered mountain to freeze it. Also note that they can be cooked or modified directly through your elementary weapons.
