As soon as you arrive on the deserted island of Animal Crossing New Horizons, Tom Nook will give you a Nookphone. This little gem of technology will be very useful to you throughout your adventure as it gives you access to essential applications. Here is the list and how to unlock them.
The Miles Nook application
This application is present from the start on your smartphone. It's a hit list to fill in to earn Miles (currency to buy unique items, tickets to visit other islands, infrastructure to put on your island and much more).
A few days after the start of your adventure, the application will update to Nook + Miles. You will then be able to complete daily challenges in order to earn Miles more easily.
The Camera application
With filters, zoom, and emotes, this application allows you to take beautiful photos and save them directly to your Nintendo Switch album.
The Bestiary application
You will unlock this application when you have given at least one fish or bug to Tom Nook in the Residents Office. It is simply an encyclopedia listing all the fish and insects you have caught at least once. A sort of Pokédex, the app allows you to find out when the animal was active, when it was caught, its habitat and whether or not you have already placed it in the Museum.
The crafting application
This app unlocks once you have attended Tom Nook's DIY lesson and used the workbench. It allows you to consult your list of available crafts at any time.
The Custom Pattern application
This app allows you to design your own patterns to integrate them wherever you want: walls, floors, flag, clothes, furniture...
By buying "Personal designs for professionals" at Nookstop, you can unlock the improved version. This new version will allow you to modify the color range and create pro designs.
The map application
A map of your deserted island showing:
- Your home
- The home of the other accounts on your Nintendo Switch
- The house of the inhabitants
- The Residents' Office and all notable places (shop, museum etc..)
- Land under construction
- The water areas
- The different levels of the island (dark green being the lowest)
By pressing X, you can choose to block the mini-card when you play: this means that the map will be present all the time in the bottom right corner of your screen. Alternatively, you can make it disappear every time you move.
The Passport application
Available from the start, this app allows you to consult your Passport and modify :
- Your passport photo
- Your comment
- Your Title
The app also allows you to consult the name of your island, the starting fruit of your island, the date you started playing, your nickname and date of birth.
The Call an inhabitant application
The application unlocks as soon as another player moves to your island. A member of your family, for example, can create an account on the Nintendo Switch and build their house on your island. By using this app, you can then play with two people at the same time.
One player will play the role of Leader (can switch) and the other players will play the role of Guests.
- Leader: can do everything as in Solo mode
- Acolyte: no access to chat, Nookphone and pocket contents. He can use tools, move objects and help the leader. If an Acolyte collects items, they will be sent to the Residents Office recycling box.
You can change the leader by waving the controller or by selecting the "Change Leader" option in the app.
The Help Desk application
In emergency situations, you can use this service to have a helicopter pick you up and take you home. Please note that the service costs 5000 miles.
Island Designer
This app will let you modify the island. This includes modifying the rivers, cliffs, roads, and more! You will unlock it with Tom Nook once you have managed to welcome K.K Slider. This application allows you to consult all the building permits you have in order to redesign your island as you wish. At first, you will only be able to lay paths, but then you will be able to buy different permits via Nook Miles.
