Resident Evil 3: Remake promises to be a little more nervous than its predecessor.
Slightly more focused on action, while remaining a good survival horror, it will ask you for more reflexes.
Indeed, the knife can no longer be used as a self-defense weapon, but at least it is no longer destructible. Do not panic, a new mechanism is emerging: dodging.
This novelty very different from Resident Evil 2: Remake is not intuitive from the start but will be crucial for the progress in this opus. Force yourself to use it and master it from your first hours in the heart of Raccoon City.
Dodge
This new gameplay replaces the self-defense knife of Resident Evil 2: Remake. Just as effective, it can be used at will — but be careful not to abuse it. A simple press on R1 combined with an orientation of the stick will allow Jill or Carlos to take a big step in the desired direction. However, this action will create an animation of the character which will slow him down until he regains his balance.
This action will be reserved for places with enough space between you and the enemy to give you time to finish the dodge animation and move away in order to flee or to target the enemy's skull. Note that this will be useless against certain enemies who can one-shot you like the Hunter γ.
The perfect dodge
Here is the most interesting part of this new feature. Perfect dodging works in the same way as basic dodging, a simple press on R1 will be enough to trigger it — with the difference that it will be necessary to play with the timing.
Indeed, it will be necessary to wait until the enemy begins its attack to press the famous key. A short bullet-time will begin, giving you time to reposition and put several well-placed bullets. Small advice: it is possible to chain these famous perfect dodges — we managed to do 3 or 4 in a row during the most difficult sequences — especially during the pursuit races. If you see that several enemies are attacking you, don't hesitate to abuse it.
However, be careful to identify the zombies and others who have started their attacks — otherwise, Jill or Carlos will simply dodge and you will find yourself vulnerable. This more than effective mechanism has a great weakness, it focuses all your attention on an enemy, so be careful not to forget those who are behind your back and off-screen.
