At the end of Mission 13, you will be able to face the last boss of Doom Eternal, the Icon of Sin.

Brought back to life by the Khan Maykr, he is one of the end bosses of the old DOOM games. This huge demon has been improved by Maykr technologies, with special armor, and will have to be slowly and gradually killed.

The fight is in two phases, each time it will be necessary to attack the 8 parts of his body, and demolish them one by one, while he summons tons of fearsome demons and bombards you.

The two phases of the fight ask you more or less the same thing, you have to target the 8 sections of the Icon, that is to say :

  • The head.
  • The left and right fists.
  • The left and right arms.
  • The left and right pectorals.
  • The belly.

In the heat of the action, it is not always easy to know whether you have already destroyed the corresponding section or not. During the first phase of the battle, the disappearance of the armor is a clear indicator. But in the second phase, the shredded flesh and bones are sometimes deceptive. So if the affected section glows red in reaction to your shots, it is not yet destroyed. If it doesn't glow, it's destroyed and you have to change the target. The counter on the right side of the screen also indicates how many sections remain to be destroyed.

The BFG-9000 is an excellent weapon for destroying one or more sections by shooting in the middle of its breastplate, for example.

However, the rockets are not fantastic in the second phase because of the distance and movement of the boss, it may be wiser to keep them for normal demons. The turret mode machine gun, as well as the basic firing of the ballista, are good options.

The Icon of Sin unleashes various attacks on the arena:

  • Punches: Dodge them by passing through the opposite section of the arena or a building. This can be an opportunity to attack his fists with the Super shotgun.
  • Sweep: A side attack that you can dodge by being at another elevation level or by moving to the other end of the arena.
  • Fire on the ground: The principle is the same as for the Khan — use jumps, dashes, and aerial movement elements.
  • Meteor shower: More difficult to dodge, beware of projectiles coming from the skies. You'll have to zigzag and make rushes.
  • Mega Laser: A pentagram will appear on the head of the Icon. Observe its orientation and stay absolutely out of its path.
  • Demon Summoning: Certainly the most painful technique. Unlike the previous bosses, the Icon of Sin won't summon tiny servants but rather almost every type of demon in the game — including Barons of Hell, Cyberdemons and other super-powerful plagues. Use your chainsaw on the little ones to collect ammunition. For the more powerful, you can use the Crucible, for which there is plenty of ammo in the room. There are also Blood Punch recharges, which will allow you to blast many groups of enemies with a melee attack. If the situation becomes too tense, you can also use the BFG-9000, for which there are many special ammunition items in the room as well.

It will be important to be mobile and go around the arena to pick up the tons of bonuses that are present. You'll need to strike a good balance between attacking the Icon of Sin and eliminating normal demons. By being very mobile and using the blue thrusters and horizontal bars you should be able to sow the worst demons for a while if necessary.
