WoW Classic: Shaman Class Guide

WoW Classic: Shaman Class Guide

World of Warcraft: Classic guide to the Shaman class. We take look at all 3 specs, from melee burst with Enhancement, healing with Restoration, to ranged DPS with Elemental. We'll give you an overview below.

Shaman is one of the two faction-specific classes in WoW Classic. That's right Alliance, no Shamans for you. The Shaman is a pretty solid class when it comes to Classic. You'll be a good healer, with Restoration and Enhancement specs typically taking up 1-3 raid slots so you can also play the spec in PvE — just be prepared for some competition. Elemental is the weaker of the specs — while it is good in PvP (with good gear), it suffers from the same problem a lot of caster specs have: Mages do your job better.

Shaman

One of the key strengths of the Shaman is their faction uniqueness. Alliance will fear you in PvP as you kite them around with Frost Shock, deal huge burst with Windfury Totem and Ghost Wolf away with their flag. Failing that, you can just heal and be the most popular Shaman in the Horde.

Available to: Tauren, Orc, Troll
Type: Melee Damage, Ranged Damage, Healer
Standard Bars: Health/Mana
Available Armor: Cloth, Leather, Mail (level 40) Shields
Available Weapons: One-Handed Mace, Staff, One-Handed Axes, Dagger, Fist Weapon

Enhancement

Enhancement is probably the most reliable of the two DPS specs for Shaman. You will find raid spots via your use of totems, and you'll likely dominate Alliance players in PvP thanks to huge burst damage and the aforementioned Frost Shock.

Elemental

Elemental is a good spec — just one that comes with a caveat. The spec does a lot better in PvP compared to PvE, and is very gear dependent. However, once geared and mastered, the spec is as strong as any.

Restoration

Restoration is a solid healing spec, and certainly an option in raids. It doesn't hold up against Priest, but can more than hold its own against others. It's certainly not as strong as Holy Paladin — the Alliance equivalent of the Shaman — but it does provide more in other areas.

Shaman Abilities in Classic

Main Abilities

Frost Shock

Instantly shocks the target with frost, causing 89 to 95 Frost damage and slowing movement speed by 50%. Lasts 8 sec.

Frost Shock is without a doubt one of the most frustrating abilities to deal with as a melee Alliance in PvP. The spell is the envy of the Alliance, and the secret weapon of the Horde.

Windfury Totem

Summons a Windfury Totem with 5 health at the feet of the caster. The totem enchants all party members main-hand weapons with wind, if they are within 20 yards. Each hit has a 20% chance of granting the attacker 1 extra attacks with 122 extra melee attack power. Lasts 2 min.

Windfury Totem, like most Shaman totems, is one of the most unique aspects of the spec. You'll find yourself in almost every melee raid group, providing a huge (if RNG-based) source of damage for other classes.

Ghost Wolf

Turns the Shaman into a Ghost Wolf, increasing speed by 40%. Only useable outdoors.

Ghost Wolf is the pre-40 travel form for Shaman, and with no cast time it allows you to pop in-and-out of the form in world content and PvP.

Purge

Purges the enemy target, removing 1 magic effect.

Purge is a fairly expensive spell to cast, but one that can rip away buffs from enemy players. In PvP you can remove huge buffs from other players, such as Heals, Shields or Enrage buffs.

Best Shaman Professions in Classic

Best for gearing

Ideal for making money

Leatherworking + Skinning - It's nice to be able to make gear out of all the mobs you kill, so we think this is the safest option for Druid — especially if you intend to do a lot of solo content.

Alchemy + Herbalism - The best combination if you either want to make gold by selling potions and herbs or just want to save some gold by making your own potions.
