Like Shaman, the Paladin is faction-unique in WoW Classic, this time for the Alliance. With the light by their side and a Divine Shield on their back, the Paladin is the shining light of the Alliance. Providing you like the idea of being a plate (dress)-wearing, Holy knight, the Paladin might just be the class for you. Just don't expect to do much DPS in raiding with Retribution — though you might find some success as a Protection tank. Holy, the Paladin healing spec, is their best option.
Paladin
The Paladin really is a plate-wearing priest. It has some amazing healing throughput, adds in tankiness and outstanding raid utility with buffs like Blessing of Might and Blessing of Wisdom, throws in some spice with your own personal bubble thanks to Divine Shield, and comes with a "free" mount at level 40 with Summon Warhorse.
Available to: Human, Dwarf
Type: Healer, Tank, Melee DPS
Standard Bars: Health/Mana
Available Armor: Cloth, Leather, Mail, Plate (level 40), Shields
Available Weapons: One-Handed & Two-Handed Mace, Polearms, One-Handed Swords, Two-Handed Swords, One-Handed Axes, Two-Handed Axes
Holy
Holy is the Paladin's best spec, not only because it is objectively better, but because the other two just don't offer enough. Holy is a solid healing spec that will see plenty of play in PvP, raiding and dungeon content. While you obviously won't look to level using the spec, it should fulfil your end-game needs.
Retribution
Retribution is a bit of a joke spec in Classic. While far from the worst spec, it struggles to output the damage required at lower gear levels. Once into the later content, however, expect Retribution to get a bit more play, especially in PvP and 1v1.
Protection
Protection Paladin is very much the "off-tank" in Classic. It has solid use in some situations, but fails to excel in the same way the Warrior can. A number of guilds will use a Paladin, so it could well be a popular spec, especially with how popular the spec is in live WoW.

Paladin Abilities in Classic
Main Abilities
Divine Shield
Protects the paladin from all damage and spells for 12 sec, but increases the time between your attacks by 100%. Once protected, the target cannot be made invulnerable by Divine Shield, Divine Protection or Blessing of Protection again for 1 min.
The bubble, a staple of any good Paladin's arsenal. It is used to make the Paladin immune to all damage for 12 seconds at the cost of reducing their attack speed — and when paired with our next spell, becomes the ultimate escape trick.
Hearthstone
Use: Returns you to <Hearthstone Location>. Speak to an Innkeeper in a different place to change your home location.
Now sure, the Hearthstone is not an "exclusive" Paladin spell, but it is, however, a Paladin spell. Plus, what kind of self-respecting Paladin guide doesn't include Bubble + Hearthstone? The greatest combination since ham & cheese.
Hammer of Wrath
Hurls a hammer that strikes an enemy for 304 to 336 Holy damage. Only usable on enemies that have 20% or less health.
An iconic Paladin spell, Hammer of Wrath is one of the best ways for a Paladin to take down a fleeing foe. Just wait for them to hit 20% HP, watch them run in fear, then show them your Wrath in the form of a magical hammer.
Judgement
Unleashes the energy of a Seal spell upon an enemy. Refer to individual Seals for Judgement effect.
We don't like to judge. Paladins, on the other hand, love to. Judgement will see you unleash the energy of your active Seal spell upon the enemy. The effects may vary, but trust us — they're pretty good.
Summon Charger
Summons a Charger, which serves as a mount. Speed is increased by 100%.
When people tell you that Paladins are the best class because they get a free mount, don't believe them right away. Look, the Paladin is great, but this Charger is not really free. You'll have to go on a quest chain across multiple regions and dungeons to earn this magical beast, but boy is it worth it.

Great for making gear

Blacksmithing + Mining - Probably the best combination, especially for getting gear while levelling.
Engineering + Mining - Equally as good as Blacksmithing, Engineering means that rather than crafting your own armour, you'll be able to make a selection of useful (and sometimes useless) gadgets and toys, many ideal for PvP.
