It is possible to get Eggs in Pokémon GO, just like in the main series. These are primarily obtained by spinning PokéStops.
To hatch an Egg, it must be placed in an incubator. There are two types of incubator: the standard one, and a Super Incubator which hatches your Eggs twice as quickly.
You will be given an unlimited-use standard Incubator at the beginning of the game, and you can earn more limited-use Incubators through levelling up. You can also purchase them from the in-game Shop.
To find your Eggs, click on the Main Menu and then Pokémon. Select an Egg, and "Start Incubation".
There are four types of Eggs. Their rarity determines the number of kilometers you need to walk in order to hatch them:
- 2 km (green)
- 5 km (orange)
- 10 km (purple).
- 7 km (a special Egg found randomly when opening Gifts)
When an egg hatches, Candy is given alongside the Pokémon. The number of Candies depends on the stage of evolution of the Pokémon: for example, a Snorlax will hatch alongside more candies than a Poliwag!
Hatching an Egg is very long process! You need to walk a minimum of 2 km to see a small Pokémon come out of its shell. However, it is possible to speed up the process!
For example, if you can take a bus slow enough, it may trick the application and allow Eggs to hatch more quickly! You can also continue to capture Pokémon or collect items from the various PokéStops on your route.
However, after several tests, it has been noted that only straight-line walking worked! GPS does not update every second, and needs a certain amount of time to calculate your position since your last recorded location.
In the diagram below, we understand that long turns are not necessarily counted, and that's why weaving for 5 kilometers will only add 2 kilometers to your Egg.
