The feature native to Kalos debuts in the world of Niantic. The Mega-evolution system is still a temporary element that doesn't last permanently. Let's find out how Niantic did to adapt it to Pokémon GO.
Be careful because this guide may be updated regularly.
How does Mega-Evolution work
Mega Evolution works like Pokémon Evolution. However, it doesn't require having candy but another resource that we will call "Mega-energy".
How to have this famous energy
To obtain it, you will have to make Mega Raids which are quite simply Raids in which you will face a mega-evolved creature. For the moment, only Florizarre, Tortank and Charizard are available in these famous raids. Namely, the speed at which you win the fight gives you more energy. Typically you will have between 40 and 50 Mega Energy per successful raid, but this number is subject to change.
It's also possible to obtain it through special studies like the one that is in progress called "A mega-discovery". The latter allows you to recover energy to make Dardardgnan mega-evolve.
Small precision, Mega-energy is common to all Mega-evolutions but some Pokémon require more energy than others.
Right now, here is the amount needed for the first mega-evolution of the following monsters:
- Charizard : 200 Mega-energy
- Venusaur: 200 Mega-energy
- Blastoise: 200 Mega-energy
- Beedrill: 100 Mega-energy
The more you would mega-evolve a pokemon, the more energy needed will decrease. We do not yet know by how much or if there is a mandatory minimum course for mega-evolve. Normally, this is the case in view of the implementation of this new mechanism.
What to do with a mega-evolved Pokémon
A Pokémon that has undergone a mega-evolution does not keep it for life but for a certain time. During this time, you can do a whole lot of things with it. Here is the list:
- Fight in Raid and buffer attacks of the same type as your creature for your allies (Limited to a single boost given by a Mega-evolution).
- Fight in Gym
- Fight Team Rocket
- Fight your friends
- Make him your Pokémon buddy
- Take pictures with him
What you can't do with a mega-evolved Pokémon
- Have several at the same time
- Defend a Gym
