Elden Ring Boss Guide: How to beat the Black Knight

The world of Elden Ring changes depending on the time of day. At night, you can encounter the Black Knight in Limgrave. Here's how you can take down this mini-boss.

FromSoftware have said that the world of Elden Ring will change at night in the game, something we were able to confirm in the closed network test.

Although limited to just one instance in the test -- the Black Knight mini boss -- it's a formidable opponent for players seeking a challenge.

You'll find the Black Knight on the bridge spanning the river north of Lake Agheel. Here's how to take it down.

Combat

Like the Many Armed Key Master and the Lion Guardian, the Black Knight isn't the toughest of bosses -- But that doesn't mean it doesn't pack a punch if you're not careful.

Much like the Tree Sentinel, you can face it either on horseback or at close quarters. In this case, we think it's better to lure the Knight away, into the nearby meadows. This removes the possibility of falling off the bridge while dodging, something that happened to us in our playthrough.

If you choose the melee route, dodging or blocking and then counterattacking is the strategy to go with. For spellcasters, go for those abilities best suited to fast targets. Otherwise, your spells could miss.

An effective tactic is to kill the Knight's mount, something which is likely if you're using a melee weapon anyway. While the Knight can call upon another, you'll have a chance to inflict a critical hit when it falls off the mount.

Rewards

The rewards in the closed network test were a bit of a letdown -- we only earned 935 Runes, with no items dropped.
