From runes to items, gameplay tips amd more, we've put together a guide to help you master playing Janna in the botlane in League of Legends.
Be mindful that there are several ways to build and play a champion, and you'll need to be adaptable as the game and the enemy team progress.
That said, this guide is a good starting point to helping you get to grips with the champion and making an impact in your games.
Runes
Core Items
Build
Shurelya's Battlesong grants Janna a lot of mobility and ability haste, combining perfectly with her passive for more frequent shields and spells.
Chemtech Putrifier is great for allowing teammates to apply Grievous Wounds to enemies, which could turn the tide of a trade or teamfight.
Other good items include Redemption, Staff of Flowing Water, and Mikael's Blessing.
Starting Item & Boots
Skill Order
While your choices may differ according to how the game progresses, the typical Janna skill priority is:
R > W > E > Q
Summoner Spells
These are the summoner spells most typically taken by Janna in this role. Naturally, this may change depending on match-ups.
Gameplay
Janna can play offensively in the early game thanks to her kit providing a lot of utility, but remember that her role is purely to support allies rather than attempt spectacular plays - you'll be punished if you overextend.
- Level 1 - Take W - Zephyr, so you can zone enemies and try to deny farm,
- Level 2 - Take Q - Howling Gale, for even more zoning and a knock up.
- First Back - Get your Boots of Swiftness so you can move around more quickly, or start building towards Shurelya's Blessing.
Tips & Tricks
- You can use Eye of the Storm on your turrets to momentarily protect them in a siege. That extra second or two could allow you to repel the attack. This will also increase the damage they deal.
- When poking enemies, fire off an auto-attack and follow it up with your shield for maximum effect. This will allow you to fire off a second auto and retreat with no cost.
- You can use your ultimate offensively to isolate a carry from their support, ensuring a kill - especially in a 2v2 situation.
- Playing Janna requires a good ability to read the game, and anticipate what the enemy will do. Otherwise, you'll largely be wasting spells.
