Maliketh is one of the most agile and aggressive bosses in Elden Ring and you'll need to kill him before you access the Ashen Capital and here's a few tips on how to kill him swiftly.
Important Disclaimers
- If it makes you feel any better, killing Maliketh won't make the Beast Clergyman disappear.
- On the other hand, the capital will change after the death of this boss, certain quests and certain objects, including a legendary weapon will no longer be accessible.
Preparations
- As always, your choice of summoning spirit will greatly determine the difficulty of the confrontation. Ranged summons are a rather great help.
- Talismans capable of improving your survival, such as that of crimson amber, or the legendary talisman of dragon shield help you not to die at the slightest combo.
- If you're having real difficulty, preparing ranged weapons and projectiles capable of inflicting a dot is a good way to win.
Stage 1: Beast Clergyman
- During this phase, the boss will use bestial incantations, such as the claws on the ground, the volley of stone shards, or a large rock. Being at a distance is probably more dangerous than being in melee. Favor quick incantations, and hide behind a pillar before drinking a potion .
- Melee attacks are not too dangerous during this phase, it is quite easy to roll under to pass on its flanks.
- This first phase should be used to prepare a second phase as easily as possible . Keeping yourself at maximum health, enchanting your weapon with a spell or consumable, rerolling defensive spells, and others is a good idea when the boss is approaching 50%.
Stage 2: Maliketh
- After the cutscene, the boss reveals his true nature and the difficulty increases exponentially. He's a bit reminiscent of an overpowered version of the Black Knife Assassins faced in some dungeons earlier in the adventure, which makes sense in terms of lore. It is therefore very fast, agile and aggressive. His large ranged fire blades really need to be dodged, in addition to direct damage, they do damage over time , so try to keep yourself high alive by using the pillars to cover yourself when you drink your potion . Please note though that his big melee hits pass through said pillars, don't rely too heavily on them though.
- Unless your summon is responsible for distracting the boss, you will have to learn to dodge his attacks and use the few windows available to counterattack Maliketh in a "fair" fight. Keep in mind that many of his attacks have a kisscool effect, with a burst of flames moments after.
- Some of the elements of the first phase are preserved during the second, for example the balance bar of the boss . Notice in the video above, that we have the opportunity at the beginning of the second phase to inflict a critical hit on him. We haven't confirmed yet if this applies to damage over time, but if you have projectiles with bleed, poison or scarlet rot, you can apply them at the end of the first phase, or at the end of the first phase. less begin to fill up his affliction gauges. Once afflicted by these effects, Malketh will be almost dead, all you have to do is play hide and seek behind the pillars waiting for them to eat away at his life.
