Elden Ring is full of quirky bosses, which make use of unusual mechanics. But the game is also criticized for having too many copy-pasted dungeons and bosses. In the case of the Copycat Tear, it literally is, but from your character.

Where can I find the Mimic Tear?

The best thing to do is start Ranni and Blaidd's quests, even if it's optional, and then kill General Radahn. When he dies, a meteor is seen crashing in the distance: a huge crater has been formed in the eastern Necrolimbo, not far from Kenneth Haight's fort. Going down into the hole, you will find a passage to Nokron, the eternal city. The Imitator Tear awaits you there, after a few clusters of Silver Tears and other local mobs.

Preparations

The confrontation against this boss is different from the others, since it will perfectly imitate your character, with its equipment, its spells, and even its equipped consumables . There are three major differences: he has fewer healing potions (normally only one), his CP is infinite, and he has a lot more life than you do . Normally, you should be able to overcome it by playing better, which we wish you with all our hearts. But things can get tricky if you're using a particularly deadly build, like Freezing Stomp or Sword of Burning Night, for example. If you ever get stuck on that, before the fight starts you can just equip the worst weapon and some pointless Ashes of War on your character, along with tons of completely useless consumables (like resistance to an element you do not use). Thus, the mimic will not perform very well in combat, and it will waste time using rotten objects. During the transformation of the mimic, you can equip your good weapon. You can also simply change weapons.

  • You are normally aware of the strengths and weaknesses of your own build, do not hesitate to use this against your copy, even if it means changing tactics. Enticing her to use a big attack or a spell that leaves her vulnerable in order to counterattack is a good plan too.
  • Theoretically, you could take the vice further by equipping similarly rotten Talismans, and switching to them afterwards, but that takes time, and you probably don't need it on this fight.
  • Let's also mention the fact that you have a big advantage during the confrontation against your copy: you can summon a spirit.
