World of Warcraft's Wrath of the Lich King Classic expansion went live on Tuesday, September 27, 2022. To access the "new" continent of Northrend as well as the content this expansion offers, players must cross the Great Sea of Azeroth. We offer you a short remedial course to access it as quickly and as simply as possible.

Northrend Starting Zones

Northrend offers not one but two starting zones: Howling Fjord and Borean Tourndra. Overall, if you're a level 70 player either area is fine. However, we recommend:

  • The Howling Fjord for Alliance players, then the Borean Tundra once the area is complete
  • Borean Tundra for Horde players, then Dragonblight once the area is complete

This advice applies mainly to players on the PvP realms, but also more generally to the few days following the launch of the expansion even on the PvE realms since we notice a fairly strong trend in favor of the Borean Tundra since the area is very linear and offers attractive rewards faster.

How to get to Northrend? The Howling Fjord

Travel to Howling Fjord for an Alliance player

The only way to get to Howling Fjord quickly if you're playing as an Alliance character is through a boat. This one docks regularly at the Port of Menethil only, at the Wetlands. It's the dock on your right as you look in the direction of Ironforge (the docks actually).

To get there quickly, the closest teleport is to the capital city of Ironforge. From this area, interact with the Flight Master so that he sends you directly to the Port of Menethil in just one minute, before finally reaching Valgarde.

Travel to Howling Fjord for a Horde player

To get to Howling Fjord quickly if you're playing as a Horde character, it's via a zeppelin. This one regularly lands in Brill only, in the Glades of Tirisfal. This is the westernmost tower of the two available, only one zeppelin goes there and it is very different from those leading to Orgrimmar and Camp Grom'gol.

To get there quickly, the closest teleport is to the capital city of the Undercity. Then leave the capital and go to the entrance of the village of Brill to find two towers of zeppelins. The westernmost one is the one you are looking for and will lead you to Vengeance Landing.

How to get to Northrend? The Borean Tundra

Travel to Borean Tundra for an Alliance player

The only way to get to the Borean Tundra quickly if you're playing as an Alliance character is via a boat. This one regularly docks at the Port of Hurlevent only. This is the rightmost wharf when looking at the port, if not the northernmost one on the map.

To get there quickly, the closest teleport is to the capital city of Stormwind. From this area, head west to find Port of Stormwind. You can not miss it ! Then, head to the Keep of Bravery!

Travel to Borean Tundra for a Horde player

To quickly get to the Borean Tundra if you play as a Horde character, this is again done by means of a zeppelin. This one regularly lands at the Gates of Orgrimmar only, in Durotar. This is the westernmost zeppelin tower in the area, beyond the Brochepierre Farm.

To get there quickly, the closest teleport is to the capital of Orgrimmar. From this area, exit and head west (northwest actually) of Durotar, near the capital walls. Then, head to the Keep of Bravery!
