From runes to items, gameplay tips amd more, we've put together a guide to help you master playing Viego in the jungle in League of Legends.
Be mindful that there are several ways to build and play a champion, and you'll need to be adaptable as the game and the enemy team progress.
That said, this guide is a good starting point to helping you get to grips with the champion and making an impact in your games.
Runes
Core Items
Build
Divine Sunderer adds both damage potential and survival to Viego's kit, and is great at taking down any tanks you may find. It synergises perfectly with Blade of the Ruined King and its speed and mobility.
Other good items include Sterak's Gage, Wit's End, Death's Dance, and Essence Reaver.
Starting Item & Boots
Skill Order
While your choices may differ according to how the game progresses, the typical Viego skill priority is:
R > Q > E > W
Summoner Spells
These are the summoner spells most typically taken by Viego in this role. Naturally, this may change depending on match-ups.
Gameplay
Viego starts slow in the jungle, and doesn't really come online until he gets a couple of items under his belt. Farm up and avoid trades where you can, and gank only when you're sure you can take out the enemy champion. He's more suited as a duelist too, rather than a teamfighter, so perhaps it's a good tactic to try and take down a carry before the teamfight starts.
- Level 1 - Take Q - Blade of the Ruined King, for the extra damage on passive.
- Level 2 - Take W - Spectral Maw, for more damage and clear potential.
- First Back - Work towards your Divine Sunderer.
Tips & Tricks
- You can use Flash during the animation of both Blade of the Ruined King and Spectral Maw to surprise an enemy previously out of reach.
- The passive of Blade of the Ruined King offers a great self-heal. Alternate spells with autos for maximum effect.
- Blade of the Ruined King can hit multiple targets, applying your passive to several enemies.
- Spectral Maw will not take you over walls, but the mist will travel across a wall to stun an enemy.
- Harrowed Path works on the edges of the map, ideal for ganking in lane.
- Don't use Harrowed Path on a wall or surface when clearing the jungle, so you don't give your position away.
- Harrowed Path lasts long enough for you to cast Recall while camouflaged, and it can also hide the casting of Spectral Maw.
- Heartbreaker will allow you to cross walls.
- You cannot use the ultimate, summoner spells, or activatable items of champions you've possessed.
