If you want to complete your Pokédex to 100% in Pokémon Scarlet and Purple or even level up some of your creatures to level 100, you will need a lot of experience points. The famous Multi Exp (when you win a battle, the experience is shared for all Pokémon in the team) will not be enough, so here are some techniques you can employ to gain XP easily.
The Lucky Egg
When you arrive in front of your 6th arena, Professor will offer you a very useful item called the Lucky Egg. Equip it to a Pokémon that you are sure to send out at least once during a fight against a trainer or a wild monster.
Sandwiches, picnics and restaurants
When you have a picnic to play or wash your Pokémon, they automatically gain experience and especially Happiness (friendship). If the sandwich mechanics may seem quite complex at first glance, just remember that it allows you to grant significant bonuses during your adventure. Called "Gustatory Auras", these bonuses are inherent to each type of sandwich or dish consumed in a restaurant.
Sandwiches
Your objective will therefore be to target dishes with the "Experience" aura. However, you will see that this aura is associated with a very specific type of Pokémon such as "Flight Experience" for example. Before consuming a sandwich/meal, make sure you know where you're going and what Pokémon you'll be fighting.
In the tutorial presented above, the Ham Sandwich is used since it allows you to obtain a Normal Encounter Aura which will boost the appearance of Normal-type Pokémon and therefore Chansey (the best Pokémon to KO to gain XP).
Spots in Chansey
Just like in Pokémon Legends Arceus, one of the techniques for gaining experience is by knocking out (or capturing) Chansey. Normal type, they are very weak against Fighting type attacks.
You can find a lot of them to the left of Team Star's Fairy Lair (northwest) and even more if you use the famous sandwich giving the Normal Encounter Aura. If you have low-level Pokémon to evolve, now is the time to put them on your team!
EXP Candy
An even easier way to get experience is to simply use Super Candy or EXP Candy. You can get it in several ways:
- By finding them on the ground during your exploration,
- By earning them when you pass the tests of each subject of the Academy of Paldea,
- As a reward for completing the Pokédex,
- By doing Teracrystal Raids (best way to get them).
