The transport system and vehicles in Death Stranding

Death Stranding's main character, Sam, will not always have to walk. He will also be able to use different means of transport to relieve his poor feet and deliver more goods across the USA. Here is an overview of what Hideo Kojima has concocted.

The transport system and vehicles in Death Stranding

Although Death Stranding can sometimes give the impression of being a hiking simulator, you will sometimes be given the opportunity to make good use of technology. Each means of transport will soon have its own guide, but in the meantime, let's see the basics about what you need to know about vehicles.

Exoskeletons

Exoskeletons are powerful pieces of equipment that will make deliveries easier. You should receive the power exoskeleton fairly quickly during the adventure, which will be enough to show you the power of these machines. There are several types of them and we will have the opportunity to review each of them through dedicated guides. In the meantime, don't forget that exoskeletons are based on a battery system, just like traditional vehicles.

Transport carts

In Death Stranding, you can use a transport cart as a hoverboard. These carts are attached to Sam Porter. Two of them can be connected to the Porter and, when they are empty, it is possible to use them as a sled. We strongly advise you don't test the experience, unless you have a beautiful straight line full of vegetation 500 meters in front of you.

Vehicles

  • A few general points about vehicles: they all have a battery and can run out of power if you are not careful enough.
  • Vehicles will also suffer from the ravages of time rainfall and will deteriorate over time.
  • In the same way, avoid watercourses at all costs, it consumes a lot of battery power. However, there is a solution to this: other versions with longer battery life will be available as you progress through the story.

The motorcycle

Only 2 vehicles strictly speaking are available. The first is a motorcycle, called Reverse Trike, which looks a little like Akira's famous motorcycle. It is a vehicle adapted enough to move in rocky terrain because it is maneuverable and can pass between obstacles. But as in almost all games of this kind, the field is sometimes specially designed to prevent you from passing with your vehicle. It will also be unable to cross pits and rivers unless you, or another player, has installed a bridge.

Death Stranding

The truck

Capable of carrying hundreds of kilos of cargo, the truck will be unlocked during the first acts of the game. However, don't expect to be able to go around the map with it, at least if the road network is not yet built in your world. Its suspensions can nevertheless stretch to cross watercourses without too many problems. It is a faithful companion who can however make you lose a lot of weight if you make it cross a rainfall.

Death Stranding

MULEs pickup truck

They like to travel in a vehicle that is kind of like a van, and that can carry several passengers. If you do it right, you can steal it from them afterwards. If the terrain is suitable, it can theoretically allow large quantities of equipment to be transported. However, it is unlikely that this opportunity will occur on a regular basis.
