Valorant players have been waiting for this news for quite a while now — competitive matchmaking will come to the beta very soon. The rules will be the same as for Classic games, where you have to plant or diffuse a spike to win rounds. Victory will be yours after 13 victorious rounds.
However, there is a big difference between Valorant and other competitive games. As explained by Senior Producer Ian “Brighteyz” Fielding, the ranking system in Valorant will make a point of correcting certain issues that players may encounter in other competitive modes. Your personal skill will be taken into account, smurfing will be fought against, and matches will be as balanced as possible. Anything to please the players!
Overview of Competitive Mode
- Complete 20 Unrated matches to unlock Competitive mode.
- Eight ranks, three tiers each, except for the top rank, VALORANT.
- Queue with up to five-player parties, must be within two ranks.
- Rank isn’t displayed if competitive matches aren’t played within 14 days, but your rank doesn’t decay behind the scenes.
- Closed beta rank does not carry over to the full launch.
The Competitive mode will be available soon after the arrival of Patch 0.49 in Europe and North America. To access it, you'll need to have access to the closed beta, but you will also need to have completed 20 Unrated games.
To go from Iron to Immortal — or VALORANT if you're an ambitious player — you'll have to win games, but being great during these games will also count and get you up the ladder faster. On the contrary, losing by playing very badly will make you lose more rank points.
It should also be noted that the new Competitive mode might be deactivated during the beta period in order to make adjustments. Now, all you have to do is wait for Patch 0.49 to bring out the competitor in you!
In the meantime, practice — only the best will reach the coveted VALORANT rank.
