It's official — Assassin's Creed Valhalla is the next title in the long-running series.
Following the release of Assassin's Creed Odyssey in 2018, rumors quickly spread about when the next Assassin's Creed title would take place. Many had already guessed that the Viking Age would be given its time by Ubisoft.
Now that is confirmed, thanks to an eight-hour long reveal from BossLogic on YouTube yesterday. Today, Ubisoft unveiled the first official trailer.
Players will take on the role of Viking warrior Eivor, and following in Odyssey's footsteps you can choose to play in both male and female forms.
Regarding the setting, Ubisoft revealed in a feature with Eurogamer that they have specifically chosen the invasion of England as background for their new game. From the lands of Odin to the castle of Alfred the Great, this new adventure promises to be bloody.
Although we'll have to wait for further trailers — especially gameplay trailers — to learn a little more about the story of the game, we can note some interesting details:
- Naval battles seem to be returning, and will take place aboard a drakar.
- Norse mythology seems to be central to the gameplay, with rites and references to the gods — Eivor mentions Odin in the trailer.
- The perceived idea that the vikings were barbarians is to be challenged.
- Your character's tattoos, hair, war paint and equipment will be customizable.
Unlike Assassin's Creed Odyssey, our hero will be able to call upon the series' legendary hidden blade in battle.
What could possibly be the connection between the vikings and the Brotherhood? We'll have to wait until the end of the year to find out!
