It's been a rather hectic summer for Ubisoft, who have been talking a lot about them since their financial report published a few days ago giving a lot of information about their future games, including two reports, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora at the top of roster, and cancellations of games that were in development. Avatar wasn't the only game tipped to be postponed as another title was on the radar, an as-yet-unannounced game that would be a major license game from Ubisoft's catalog, but not necessarily a Avatar project size game.
Assassin's Creed Rift: towards a release in the 2nd quarter of 2023?
It is the Bloomberg site which lifts the veil on the mystery of the second postponed game, since indeed it would be the next opus of the Assassin's Creed license, namely Assassin's Creed Rift. The investigation was conducted by journalist Jason Schreier, he explains that the Rift episode was scheduled to be released around February 2023 and that from now on the game would rather be expected to see the light of day between May and June 2023. This change of date falls completely within the change of fiscal year for Ubisoft which will end on March 31, 2023.
On the player side this will not generate much since the game has not yet been officially announced, this information only tells us a release tranche for the next Assassin's Creed game and mainly impacts Ubisoft's plans internally which will have to most certainly review some game release dates to best meet their fiscal objectives for the year 2023.
Assassin's Creed Rift seems to be shaping up well on the side of the Middle East and more particularly in Baghdad with Basim Ibn Ishaq as the main protagonist, a character introduced in the last opus released, Assassin's Creed Valhalla . It is once again the journalist Jason Shreier who refocuses the subject since rumors have taken the next game from Ubisoft's flagship license to the Aztecs.
According to him there will be no connection with the Aztecs and that the game will take place well in Baghdad. We also learn that the title will serve as an entry pending the big Assassin's Creed project on which Ubisoft is working, namely AC infinity which should be unveiled in the Ubisoft Forward to come on September 10th . But that's not all since in addition to this ambitious project and the Rift episode, the saga should head towards the world of VR with a game called Assassin's Creed Nexus which should also be present during from the publisher's takeover at the start of the school year.
For our part, we can't wait to be there and to know the future of this emblematic video game license for almost 15 years now. We have already seen a first reboot of the fundamentals of the license with the arrival of Assassin's Creed: Origins and there is a good chance that we will have other changes for assassins with what Ubisoft has in mind.
