LoL, LFL: LDLC OL win European Masters 2020

Last night, after several years of failures and false hopes, the French League of Legends community finally took its revenge on the European Masters thanks to LDLC OL. After largely dominating the last two splits of the French league, the roster stood up at the top of Europe, defeating K1CK Neosurf of the Polish league.

Directly qualified for the main event, Bando, TynX, Vetheo, Hades, and YellOwStaR came out on top of their group and proceeded to crush the Academy teams of Excel and Rogue on their way to the finals.

They met K1CK Neosurf, an organization that was involved in the Portuguese league before joining the Polish Ultraliga at the beginning of Spring Split 2020.

Before the match, players, casters, and organizations from all over the world started to pledge their allegiance to one of the two finalist teams by changing their Twitter profile pictures to that of either Puki Style or YellOwStaR — Riot Games CEO Nicolas "nicolo" Laurent himself followed the trend...

While there's nothing surprising to see people cheering on YellOwStaR, as he's already a League veteran, the support that Puki Style received was quite astonishing. With Pompa Team, the Polish player won the first season of the Ultraliga 2018, before joining Illuminar Gaming for 2019. However, the team failed to really shine and only reached third place in both playoffs.

As Spring Split 2020 began, Puki Style joined the newly formed roster of K1CK Neosurf — and this time he reached the final, only losing to AGO Rogue. However, this second place meant they qualified for the play-in stage of the European Masters. From there, K1CK Neosurf exceeded all expectations, ending first in their play-in group, then second in their main event group.

They managed to defeat GamersOrigin (LFL) and Movistar Riders (LVP), and met LDLC OL in the final. Their journey in the European Masters created enormous hype within the Polish League community, leading thousands of people to change their Twitter profile pictures for that of Puki Style, before being followed by the whole esports scene.

However, the hype was quickly extinguished as LDLC OL quickly stomped on the hopes of K1CK Neosurf, defeating them 3-0.

"We are champions!"

Although the title of kings still remains G2 Esports' exclusivity, LDLC OL can now proudly call themselves masters of Europe — the best team among all national league squads.

As Summer Split approaches, it remains to be seen if the French team can transform this victory into more wins on the LFL stage...
