Side quests, whereas they're fetching or escorting quests, are nothing new in the RPG universe, as they allow to extend the life span of a game — but it seems that Assassin's Creed Valhalla will have the luxury of doing without it.
Instead of reproducing the same amount of side quests than Origins or Odyssey, this new title of the AC franchise will focus mainly on the main plot.
Narrative director Darby McDevitt told GameSpot just before the Ubisoft Forward that this approach was chosen to stick as much as possible to the story of Valhalla. In Odyssey, Alexios, or Kassandra was native of the universe of Ancient Greece, where Eivor is rather an invader wishing to make alliances, which will not have been very consistent. World events will be preserved and the narrative arcs will be much longer.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla will be released on November 17 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC.
