Starting in August, the LCK will be hosting the Academy Series, a brand new tournament open to all League of Legends amateur players.
The ambition of this new competition is very simple: to allow all those who wish to show their talent in a professional context and have the opportunity to reveal themselves.
The LCK Academy Series will be divided into 4 tournaments open to all which will take place from August to November. The top two teams from each tournament will advance to a final championship which will take place in December.
To be able to participate, you must nevertheless meet a few conditions:
- Be 12 years of age or older
- Be at least Diamond 3 or higher
- Not being part of a professional team
- Not having played in LCK or CK (or a league in another region) in the past 12 months
The semi-finals and finals will be broadcast on the official LCK channel. Participants will be allowed to broadcast their match on their personal channel if they meet certain conditions (minimum 30 minutes delay, no camera or microphone, and no third-party program launched in parallel).
The first bracket, published by Korizon, includes several academic teams linked with the most famous LCK organizations, such as T1, DRX, Afreeca Freecs, or Gen.G.
With only 10,000,000 ₩ (roughly $8,500) for the winning team, Academy Series isn't focused on the financial aspect. Beyond that, this tournament is above all a real chance for all the amateur players from the region to shine.
And maybe, who knows, to become the next Faker.
