Cyberpunk 2077 saves will be cross-gen

CD Projekt Red have confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 owners will be able to continue playing if they upgrade from a PS4 to a PS5 thanks to cross-save functionality.

Cyberpunk 2077 saves will be cross-gen

According to a pair of posts on the official Cyberpunk 2077 support site, you'll be able to pick up where you left off should you upgrade to a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, thanks to backwards compatibility.

For PS5, this will depend on you using the same PlayStation Network account across both systems, and can be done in three different ways:

  • Connect to your PlayStation Plus account and upload your saves;
  • Transfer your data via LAN cable or WiFi;
  • Use a compatible storage device to copy and transfer your saves to the same PSN account on PlayStation 5.

For Xbox, players will need to ensure they are connected to the Internet, so that save datas is uploaded to the cloud. Then, Smart Delivery should mean the save is downloaded to the new machine. Alternatively, you can connect both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S to the same network and use the consoles' system network transfer option.

This is good news for players, as nobody wants to lose potentially hundreds of hours of play — as one CD Projekt Red developer has already revealed.

Cyberpunk 2077 hits stores in just ten days' time after a series of delays, on December 10, 2020.
