This isn't surprisingly, when you consider that on the day of its release, Cyberpunk 2077 was already breaking all records:
- Best-selling PC game of all time (4.72 million copies then breaking the Shadowlands record)
- Most streamed day-one game on Twitch
- More active players on Steam
Indeed, CD Projekt Red has announced that its highly anticipated game has already sold over 8 million copies only with pre-orders. And despite Cyberpunk's concerns, especially the many bugs, that hasn't stopped players from wanting to test open-world at all costs.
Better yet, in an official report, CD Projekt Red today claims that pre-orders sales revenue on digital distribution channels has already exceeded total game development and marketing costs.
In other words, they're profitable on day one.
Slight reminder of CDPR's investment:
- $ 130 million for development
- $ 200 million on marketing.
While the game still suffers from a number of bugs and remains rather poorly optimized on PS4 and Xbox One, we can expect updates like the 1.04 to allow us to enjoy Cyberpunk more and more as it should.
