World champions in League of Legends in 2019, this past year hasn't been good to FunPlus Phoenix. An honorable third place at the Spring Split Playoffs was followed by a total collapse in summer, leading to a painful eighth place and a denial of the chance to defend their crown.
However, it's a clean slate for 2021, and for the occasion the Chinese org has decided to completely redesign its logo alongside its roster for Spring 2021.
The addition of defending World Champion Jang "Nuguri" Ha-gwon from DAMWON Gaming is a statement of intent, as is the arrival of new head coach, Chou "Steak" Lu-Hsi. They join ADC Lee "Prince" Chae-hwan, who will compete with Lin "Lwx" Wei-Xiang for the position, and hopes remain that the org will rise from the ashes once more.
“We have enhanced our brand vision for all of our divisions and franchises. Our phoenix, our symbol, takes flight from the east, etching its burning brand into the letters of FPX. The vision we want to share is the spirit of Faith, Passion and endless possibilities. Fly phoenix, fly! "
Of course, this change doesn't only apply to the League of Legends team, but extends throughout their esports operations. FunPlus Phoenix also operate in the likes of Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Valorant.
