Gambit Esports has announced the end of its venture into League of Legends esports. The Russian organisation will no longer compete in the League of Legends Continental League (LCL), and has released its entire roster.
In a statement the team published on their Twitter account, CEO Konstantin Pikiner says: "Making this decision was really difficult, since our organization's history began with a League of Legends squad." Pikiner refers to Gambit's acquisition of the Moscow Five roster, a legendary lineup pivotal to the early days of League of Legends competition.
Gambit remained a staple name in the scene, consistently ranking among the top teams in the CIS region. In the past few years, the team attended Worlds 2017, Worlds 2018, and MSI 2018 as the representative of the region. In the Spring Split this year, Gambit ended in second place during the regular Split, but couldn't get further than a semi final match in the Spring Playoffs.
