Moments after Bloomberg released an article about the future of Assassin's Creed, Ubisoft made an official statement about the next step in the franchise.

Ubisoft unveils Assassin's Creed Infinity, a new cross-studio title

A few hours ago, an article from the site Bloomberg revealed the next Assassin's Creed would be called Infinity and it would be a live service game, such as Fortnite and other multiplayer titles.

The official announcement from Ubisoft came right after Bloomberg's piece, confirming some details but leaving others (such as the "live service" scheme) in the dark.

Although there aren't many details about the project, the statement talks about the evolution of the saga and what direction they are choosing to go next.

"From its action-adventure origins to its RPG evolution, Assassin’s Creed has shown how the decisions we make now, no matter how big or small, can influence the events of the future. After both Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla shattered records, we find ourselves in that very moment where we know the decisions we’re making for the franchise now will impact its future for years to come."

First of all, Assassin's Creed Infinity is a cross-studio collaboration, being developed by both Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Quebec. This new project is being led by Executive Producer Marc-Alexis Côté, the creative director of Assassin's Creed Syndicate and the producer of Odyssey.

The rest of the team is formed by Head of the Brand Étienne Allonie, Producer Julien Laferrière and Creative Directors Jonathan Dumont and Clint Hocking.

"This change means we’re also evolving along with the video game industry. The pandemic and working from home have fundamentally changed the way we produce games, giving us a moment to reflect on our organization. Assassin’s Creed was born within the walls of Ubisoft Montreal and the studio built an incredible foundation for the franchise with the immense skill and creativity of its teams before Ubisoft Quebec then took the lead with Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Odyssey, demonstrating its ability to drive the franchise even further."

When speaking about the development's direction, the statement says that the team is trying "a more integrated and collaborative manner that’s less centered on studios and more focused on talent and leadership." It will be interesting to see where the company goes with this new mindset.

As already mentioned, there are no official words about Assassin's Creed becoming a "game as a service" experience. For that and further details, we should wait for later announcements. The next Assassin's Creed title will take a long a time to see the light, according to Bloomberg (at least 2024), so we will know more about this title for the years to come.
