Given excessive server queues in New World, Amazon Games have had to quickly ramp up optimizing servers and releasing more to counter the load. As part of this, they had promised a free server transfer for players to take up positions on lower-population servers.
However, in a post on the official forums, Amazon have now come out to say that this feature is being delayed, citing 'edge cases where the transfer experience does not meet our standards for its release.' No date has been given for the rollout of the service, although they did explain how server transfers will work.
How to transfer servers in New World
According to the forum post, there are several prerequisites to transferring your character:
- You need to log into your character, which means waiting in any applicable queues.
- Go to the in-game store where there will be a new tab to claim your character transfer token.
- You need to leave your Company.
- You need to remove any active Trading Post sell orders and buy orders.
- Your character must be located in a sanctuary (such as a settlement or outpost).
Players cannot move to servers that are either a) full, b) in maintenance, or c) a server where you already have an existing character.
When transferring, you'll get to keep the following:
- All character progression (level, weapon mastery, titles, etc.).
- Faction alliance and progress
- Inventory and storage.
- All currency.
- Houses and housing decorations.
- All quest progress.
However, you cannot transfer the following:
- Company membership -- you'll need to leave your Company beforehand
- Active Trading Post buy and sell orders
- Your friends list, which is server-specific
The free server transfer tokens will last for a limited time. While no date has been released, once the free service expires, server transfers will be made available for a fee.
