That's it! After completely dominating the League of Legends European Championship Summer Split, G2 Esports prevailed in Playoffs with this insane reverse sweep win in Final (and Semi-Finals!) against Fnatic. Caps and his teammates became the big winners of the Summer Split and thus automatically qualified for Worlds as the 1st Seed of the EU Region.
The Regional Qualifiers will now determine which teams from Origen, Splyce, and Schalke 04 will join G2 and Fnatic to represent the EU region at Worlds!
Schedule
Round 1 — September 13
On the first day, Nukeduck surprised everyone by picking a mid Nautilus, but it wasn't enough to beat Splyce. The match was extremely tensed, with each team coming back to the score until the fifth game. However, Origen were clearly overcautious: they didn't want to take risks, they were playing incredibly defensive. While they seemed not ready to take the needed risks, Splyce were. Thanks to a baron buff secured just in front of powerless Origen, Xerxe and his teammates started to take the top inhibitor, then the mid one — eventually acing Origen into the victory.
Round 2 — September 14
However, the Regional Qualifiers are ruthless. The second day, after a first exhausting round, Splyce were playing again. This Round 2 was far more decisive since it was determining if they could qualify for Worlds. Spoiler alert: they did — and what an incredible League of Legends lesson. Compared to the 3-2 they had to snatch in the previous Round, this Bo5 was just a formality. While Schalke04 fought at their full potential during the first game, they were unable to completely beat Splyce — who eventually secured the first game thanks to a classic and efficient baron power play.
Then, the slaughter started. Filled with the rage of winning, Splyce snowballed the second game without a drop of sweat. 2-0, but Schalke04 didn't say their last word. During the third game, they manage to secure the first baron, but couldn't really use it. In a quick and impressive teamfight, Xerxe and his teammates managed to catch four members of Origen. Odoamne left alone couldn't defend the base even with his baron buff, and the blue Nexus exploded — offering both the victory and a ticket for Worlds to Splyce.
Round 3 — September 15
Sadly, Splyce won't make a perfect this year: their youth and their commitment weren't enough to stop the Fnatic war machine. 3-0, but that's not the end of the dream.
Both teams are indeed qualified for Worlds: Fnatic as the 2nd Seed and Splyce as the 3rd one. In the end, it might even be better for Splyce to be attributed this Seed, since the Play-In phase will probably ensure them a better pool of opponents.
All three EU Seeds are now determined... Let's just hope they will make it to Paris!
