Some lucky ones have participated in an event organized by CD Projekt Red in Warsaw. This was an opportunity to have a Q&A session with the developers, who were kind enough to give more information about their little baby: Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk 2077: more information on story, gameplay and cyberwares

Not long ago, a certain 'shavod 2' posted on Reddit his short summary of the Q&A that took place during a small event organized by CD Projekt Red. It was taking part in a gaming bar in Warsaw and all the elements were there to give some more information about the long-awaited Cyberpunk 2077. So we come back to everything we have learned from it.

Some elements on the Story

First, we learn that the main scenario would be a little shorter than Witcher 3's, but more suitable for replayability. Which, let's face it, is quite positive. It could be that the title is actually rather long, the developers have not yet properly measured the duration of it. Finally, it doesn't matter, since it has been said that you can continue to play the game after the end of the story.

As for the secondary quests and other encounters in the game, we now know that it's much more titanic than The Witcher 3. You have to see the secondary quests of Cyberpunk as a gigantic tree with multiple knotted branches. Most quests affect other threads, and even the main scenario. According to the developers, it would be difficult to do exactly the same playthrough twice in the game. Moreover, taking time to make a choice of dialogue will sometimes have real consequences on the development of the next part of the scenario. Enough to make the biggest RPG fans drool. Finally, for the most twisted of you, know that it will be possible to plunge Night City into chaos, even to destroy it in part. Just that!

Many details about the gameplay

V will be able to fight with various weapons and other gadgets. If he's injured, he will be able to restore his health by using consumables such as food or the medicine inhaler. Some of these healing items will have an instant healing effect, while others will just slowly restore our health over time. There is also cyberware that will provide us with health regeneration, but it will then take a place that could be used for a more useful part. We also know that you will be able to create yourself, any object that can be used in the game, with the exception of clothing and cyberware. You can still modify them, to change their statistics and the way they appear.

Night City is a living city, so CD Projekt Red wanted to make its world realistic. For example, the day-night cycle has a fairly strong impact on gameplay. During quests, some areas may be more or less guarded, depending on the time of day or night. You can find guards who are already asleep, which will make your actions easier. Some scenes in the story may also change depending on the time of day. Secondly, dynamic weather will not affect the gameplay, but the world will react to it. For example, in the rain, some people will take out their umbrellas, while those who do not have one will look for a place to hide from the rain. As for V himself, although we cannot buy new apartments, his apartment will look different depending on the path of life chosen and it will change in some way over time. Finally, know that reaching the boundaries of the playable world will work in the same way as in The Witcher 3, you will be informed that you are approaching it and the game will force you to go back.

Other Informations

  • The developers' goal is to make all game styles viable.
  • The physics of the vehicles is realistic.
  • The developers would like to include real differences between the various levels of difficulty (beyond more or less tough enemies), this is made complex because of the scope of the game, so they don't promise anything.
  • As for the presence of a Cyberpet, the developers did not want to reveal anything. It would still be cool to have a robot dog that rips off our enemies, wouldn't it?
  • On the environmental destruction side, we could destroy up to 3/4 of the elements that surround us. Of course, we can't destroy the entire neighborhood.
  • Depending on our choices, some places may be blocked, or explorable in a more or less deep way. However, some areas will not be available outside certain paths. The exploration will therefore be dynamic and dependent on our choices.
  • Night City police will not intervene for minor crimes, such as beating someone up in the middle of a street. On the other hand, pulling out your weapon and shooting at the crowd will get you into a lot of trouble.

Cybernetic implants

Those who have researched Cyberpunk 2077 already know that you can modify your body in an extremely advanced way. This is possible thanks to cybernetic implants, otherwise known as cyberwares. To implement things you will need the services of Ripperdocs, but there will be some modifications of cyberwares that you can implement yourself, on your body. We also learn that it will be possible to install the 'Sandevistan' increase. This will allow us to move as fast as the animals seen in the Deep Dive video. This will slow everything around us, except for the fast enemies.

Finally, your character, V, starts with a series of basic implants. This information was already known, but we now know that this 'base package' will include the translator. At the beginning of the game, it will only translate the most common languages in Night City (such as Spanish, Japanese, etc...). To be able to understand less common languages, such as Creole, you will first have to buy the appropriate updates for your translator. Another element that brings realism back into the game. Maybe we'll tear our hair out of our heads when a protagonist tries to tell us something in Latin, when we don't have the necessary update....

Various information and technical details

Here is a lot of information that it's interesting to know, it allows to see the scope that the developers wanted to give to the game, and it's very promising:

  • Each main character has a unique set of animations. Enough to make each of them truly unforgettable.
  • Something as basic as skipping cutscenes and dialogues, was complicated to set up in the game because it doesn't have classic scenes. The developers have finally found a system they are proud of, and we'll discover it once the game is in our hands.
  • The diversity of NPC models will certainly be much greater than in The Witcher 3, they'vemade a crazy amount. Due to physical memory limitations, developers may not be able to put all the unique models they've made into the game and may have to make compromises. They are working on it, to ensure a distinct look for as many NPCs as possible, without completely compromising the game's performance.
  • Ray Tracing will not only be used for the lighting system, it will also be there to simulate how sounds propagate in an area. For example, we will hear sounds differently depending on the position of our character, distance from the source, obstacles on the way, etc...
