A unique environment

DOOM is a license of ID Software that was created in 1993. Yes, you just got a free oldie from the first sentence. It's an FPS where you're in a world of science fiction and horror. Its universe and gameplay have made such an impression that the term "DOOM-LIKE" was created. Today, it is used to refer to games similar to DOOM (such as QUAKE from the same developer). In DOOM, you embody the DOOMGUY (or DOOM SLAYER), a navy who, after insubordination to an officer, is sent to the UAC (Union Aerospace Corporation) on Mars. The UAC is a military-industrial complex that the army uses for various secret experiments. One of these experiments consists in creating a teleport between Mars and its 2 moons (Phobos and Deimos).

Of course, an accident happened one day... And they didn't do things half-assed. The scientists opened an interdimensional portal that linked Phobos to... Hell. Since Elon Musk isn't available on Mars right now, you're in charge of fixing the problem. That's how the DOOM story begins.

Doom Franchise

The original license is divided into 3 episodes:

  • DOOM 1
  • DOOM 2
  • DOOM 3

But no less than 15 different games have been released since 1993 on 20 different platforms.
However, the majority were extensions or remakes: adaptation in HD, VR or mobile version.

In order :

  • 1993: DOOM 1
  • 1994: DOOM 2, Hell On Earth
  • 1995: The Ultimate DOOM and Master Levels for DOOM 2
  • 1996: Final DOOM
  • 1997: DOOM 64
  • 2001: DOOM Collector
  • 2004: DOOM 3
  • 2005: DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil and DOOM RPG
  • 2009: DOOM Resurrection
  • 2010 : DOOM 2 RPG
  • 2016: DOOM
  • 2020 : DOOM Eternal

Doom, outside of the game

DOOM includes a wide variety of merchandising (clothing, furniture, hardwares, cosplays, etc.), some of which are rarer in the world of video games.

These include :

  • 2 movies: DOOM (2005) and DOOM Annihilation (2019)
  • 2 novels: "DOOM Tome 1: Dead up to the neck" and "DOOM Tome 2: Hell on Earth"
  • 2 board games: "DOOM: The Board Game" and "DOOM: The Board Game - The Expansion" released in 2005

DOOM (all games and platforms combined) has total sales of several tens of millions.
Only a few licenses can boast such a great success: Warcraft, Street Fighter, Resident Evil or Final Fantasy for example.
