Washing, Red Dead Redemption 2: Hygiene, clothing and consequences

Hygiene, your clothes and more generally your equipment will have repercussions in the world of RDR2. A short "relaxation" guide, with some explanations on how to wash, why to do it and a tip to make your clothes clean in 5 seconds.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a rather special case to deal with: a stubborn saving and obscure menus alongside a more advanced craft mode than the average and a technique with sweet new generation scents.

Despite all the good we think about it, there is no denying it: the Rockstar title still lacks a good polish and some gameplay mechanics are very poorly explained or poorly executed. However, it has been the same for many great games (Skyrim, Zelda Breath of the Wild...), and that doesn't prevent it from having this "little something", this "aura" so precious in the eyes of many players.

All this to get to the point of the day, that is: we're going to tell you how to wash.... Yep, you read it right, and imagine that it will surely be useful to you. More generally, we will see everything about hygiene in the game: what it is for, how to make yourself clean almost instantly, and, finally, the now traditional "horse point".

Wash your clothes in 5 seconds

Don't underestimate this umpteenth quirk of RDR2 gameplay, it could be very useful to you. Indeed, when you go on a small punitive expedition to a city with a bonus on your head, the best way to hope to blend in is to shave at camp, put on your best trapper's outfit if you wish, in short, change yourself from head to toe.

To speed up the process, don't forget that your horse can carry another pre-configured outfit in its saddle bag and it's with this mechanism that you'll have to play to look like a new penny in no time at all. Trade your dirty clothes for the suit stored in the horse's saddle, then change again. It's magical: you're all clean! But since images are sometimes better than words, here is a little "demo" made by Turtle Hermit Waspinator.

Wash yourself

To our knowledge, the only way to get rid of the traces of a fight is to take a nice bath in a hotel. It won't cost you much money and if the task becomes daunting very quickly, it is possible to pay an extra 50c for a "special" bath that will accelerate all this.

Why should you wash? Simply because it will affect how people perceive you and the honor system: a guy in blood-soaked clothes will always be more likely to get busted at the slightest deviation than a top hat gentleman / pocket watch.

The class from beginning to end

You just followed our guide on the statues treasure and now you have $1500 you don't know what to do with? Why not invest in luxury clothes by going to the shops in the biggest cities, or by buying slamming weapon upgrades: this should have its little effect and passers-by will greet your style with glowing comments. You can also spend a few dollars on the pocket watch available in all good general stores to complete your perfect gentleman's gear. Special mention at the Reddit of the game for this very chic Arthur Morgan with a Breaking Bad's Heisenberg look.

The "equestrian point"

It's all very well to play the dandy on the best horse in the west world, but don't forget to take care of your horse if you want it to survive, especially since the rarity of your horse and its equipment will also help you to be seen as a good person.

To regenerate its core, its hygiene is essential and a brush will be provided very quickly during the main missions. The other option for it to regain its immaculate whiteness is to pay it for a complete treatment in one of the game's stables. Certainly you will have to reach your wallet, but this could prove to be wise if you plan to cross a large part of the map without having to stop.

Red Dead Redemption 2: The best horses in the game

Many horse species are available in RDR2 and the best horses in the game will either cost you a lot of money or ask you for some tips. Stop everything you are doing! Here is our Tier-List of the best horses (and we still don't believe in what we are writing).
