Epic Games had never thought of making the cars on the island of Fortnite drivable. The publisher finally did it with update 13.40. Each model of vehicle has its skills and statistics (speed, endurance, power), but they all have to be refueled at one time or another with gasoline.

You'll find cars mainly at gas stations or in towns. But some vehicles are parked on the bridges and roads of the island.

Basic commands

The cars behave like most vehicles released in the game. However, there are a few additional options that drivers will enjoy using. Here is the list of additional commands by default (on PC):

  • SPACE: activate the handbrake
  • RIGHT CLICK: honk
  • LEFT CTRL: change place
  • E: leave or get into the vehicle
  • R: turn the radio on or off
  • C: change radio station

The driver of a car has interface additions, with the fuel gauge (which indicates the fuel remaining in the vehicle) and the speedometer.

Fuel management

If your tank is empty, a red light will light up on the interface. To be able to drive smoothly, all you need to do is refuel your gasoline at a pump.

Head to the pump, take the hose and water your tank.

Another solution: the gas cans that you will find everywhere on the map, and which will allow you to refuel anywhere!

Be careful though: gasoline cans and pumps are highly flammable! Watch out for explosions!

Immobilized vehicles

In each game, some random vehicles appear to be immobilized. Their wheels are blocked with some sort of yellow padlock. This probably allows Epic Games to prevent games from turning into huge racetracks, and to maintain competition for access to working vehicles.

In addition, vehicles have a big weak point:

  • Tires: they can explode and pierced by bullets. Driving with flat tires is obviously not easy.

Last detail: the pilot's mini-map always displays the location of the island's gas stations. Don't hesitate to consult it to find out where to refuel.
