Demon’s Souls: How Black Phantoms are linked to World Tendency

If you play online in human form, you can be invaded by other players, who will appear as Black Phantoms. Killing these enemies will send your World and Character Tendency towards the White. Some of them will be NPCs from the story that you’re supposed to meet, and they will have no impact on your tendency. But there are many different kinds of Black Phantoms that are specifically linked to your World Tendency, some of which are significantly stronger versions of basic enemies. These opponents will always drop items that cannot be found if your World Tendency is Pure Black or Black.

…and her weapon

The second group of invading enemies consists of Unique NPCs that will only appear once your World Tendency is Pure Black. They can only be killed once per game, and killing them will grant your World and Character Tendencies a strong amount of White, though only if they’re killed by the player directly. Indirect deaths caused by falling or poison will only change your World Tendency, which is a good thing to keep in mind if you want to keep your Character Tendency in the black. These enemies will typically drop excellent items. In some cases, they will only appear if their original body has been killed. Here is a list of the places where you can find these types of enemies:

  • 1-1 Executioner Miralda
  • 1-4 Metas, Knight of the Lance
  • 1-4 Alfred, Knight of the Tower
  • 1-4 Long Bow Oolan
  • 1-4 Ostrava, of Boletaria
  • 2-2 Scirvir, the Wanderer
  • 3-1 Lord Rydell
  • 4-1 Satsuki
  • 5-2 Selen Vinland
  • 5-2 Garl Vinland (requires Pure White World Tendency)
