Valheim Boss Guides: How to summon and defeat them

Defeating all five Valheim bosses is no easy feat. Let our guides help you choose the best weapons and armor, and walk you through how to defeat each of the bosses in this Norse-inspired world

There are five bosses you’ll need to defeat in Valheim. Each boss marks the end of a chapter in your journey through Valheim.

Each boss will drop an item necessary to your progression within the five biomes, as well as grant you a Forsaken Power — but before you can defeat these bosses,you need to find the Vegivisir — or Runestones — marking the locations of their altars and how to summon them; as well as what you’ll need to do to come out the victor.

First boss: Eikthyr

Biome: Meadows

Eikthyr is the first boss you’ll, and though not the easiest fight by any standard, view this one as more of a tutorial for what you’ll be facing later. It won’t take you long until you’re ready to fight him, but we highly recommend that you get used to the mechanics of the game — such as construction and crafting — before you decide to take on Eikthyr.

Once you’ve defeated him you’ll be able to enter the Black Forest biome.

Second Boss: The Elder

Biome: Black Forest

After defeating Eikthyr, you’ll unlock the Antler Pickaxe — which means it’s time to start mining ore and crafting with Bronze. Set up your Forge, and then go face the Greydwarfs, Trolls and Skeletons who will get in the way of your mining adventures. Trolls are essential in upgrading your armor to the next level — which you will need in your fight against The Elder.

After defeating Eikthyr and entering the Black Forest Biome, it's time to face the next boss in Valheim. In this guide, we walk you through how to summon and defeat the second boss, The Elder

Third Boss: Bonemass

Biome: Black Forest

Defeating The Elder grants you the Swamp Key, which means you can now progress in to the Iron Age. You’ll also be able to start fermenting various meads using the Cauldron and Fermenter, which will be useful when facing Bonemass.

Fourth Boss: Moder

Biome: Mountains

The Mountains are snowy and cold, and you’ll need to make sure you’re prepared for this by crafting Wolf armor to keep yourself warm. You’ll find Silver, Obsidian and money in this biome. You’ll also unlock crafting recipes for higher level equipment.

So far all of your battles on ground level but Moder is about to take to the skies. So make sure you’re prepared with a good bow in hand.

Fifth Boss: Yagluth

Biome: Plains

The final boss you’ll face will be found somewhere on the Plains. And this is where you’ll find Fulings, and be able make the strongest weapons in the game out of Black metal and linen thread, and the highest tier of food out of barley flour and Lox meat.
