There are five bosses you’ll need to defeat in Valheim. Each boss marks the end of a chapter in your journey through Valheim. In this guide we’ll walk you through how to summon and defeat the first boss, Eikthyr.

When you first spawn, you’ll see a glowing red rock. Interact with it to add Eikthyr’s marker to your map.

Prepare for the Fight

Before you go looking for Eikthyr, you should prepare yourself for the coming fight. We recommend using a bow and arrow, as close combat with Eikthyr can result in a heap of damage. If you prefer close combat, make sure you have a decent shield! Armor is also really important here to mitigate damage, so we’d recommend having some leather armor as well.

Eating at least three pieces of food to make sure your health and stamina are at the maximum is also highly recommended.

How to Summon Eikthyr

Now that you’re prepared for the battle to come, it’s time to make your way to the Mystical Altar. Once you arrive at this location, you’ll need to place two Deer Trophies on the altar — these can be obtained by hunting deer. This will trigger a short sequence and Eikthyr will appear.

The Fight against Eikthyr

Eikthyr has three attacks, including an AOE that is particularly painful but easily dodged you are using a ranged weapon.

  • Charge: Eikthyr will drop his head and lunge towards you, charging you with his antlers
  • Ranged Lightning: Eikthyr will shoot a lightning strike at you from quite a short distance
  • Lightning AOE: Eikthyr shoots several lightning strikes in a circle

Rewards for Defeating Eikthyr

Eikthyr will drop a trophy and 3 x Hard Antler, which can be used to craft the Antler Pickaxe used for mining ore.

Hanging the Eikthyr trophy grants you a Forsaken Power that will reduce your consumption of stamina when running or jumping by 60%.
