You won’t find Obsidian in Valheim until you venture into the Mountain biome – and it can be easy to miss if you don’t know what you’re looking for.
You’ll need to be prepared to go mining Obsidian – the Mountain biome is cold, and full of threats like drakes and wolves. Make sure you’re kitted out in some Wolf armor and have an Iron pickaxe before you venture into the mountains.
Where to Find Obsidian
Obsidian rocks are scattered around the sides of mountains. They’re black and have a squarish shape, with a unique pattern – so you’ll be able to recognise them on closer inspection.
You can carry Obsidian through portals, and there’s no need to smelt it before you can craft items with it.
