Pokémon Unite: How does the Aeos Energy Reward system work?

Pokémon Unite, being a free-to-play game, does have a gacha system in place. Aeos Energy is gathered, and can then be used to spin the Energy Machine for various rewards. Here's how it works.

Pokémon Unite has proved highly popular since its recent release. Relatively simple to pick up, this free-to-play game has several systems in place for unlocking content.

One of those is the Aeos Energy Reward system, which is the title's form of gacha. While most rewards are cosmetic-only, some - such as Aeos Tickets - can ultimately affect the strength of your Pokémon in battle.

Here's how the system works, and what rewards can be obtained.

What is Aeos Energy?

Not to be confused with the energy that drops from enemies and Wild Pokémon in the actual battles themselves, Aeos Energy is a reward for playing games.

At the end of each game, you will earn a certain amount of Aeos Energy, and for every 100 Energy you can spin the Energy Machine for a reward.

This is broken down as follows:

  • Ranked Battle: Win = 40 Energy, Loss = 30 Energy
  • Standard Battle: Win = 30 Energy, Loss = 20 Energy
  • Quick Battle: Win = 20 Energy, Loss = 10 Energy

Be mindful that there is a hard limit on how much you can earn, set at 1,400 Energy per week, but there is no limit on how much you can redeem.

We'll come back to this a little later.

What you can earn from Energy Rewards?

As mentioned previously, most of the rewards are cosmetic items that make your Trainer look different.

Complete sets you can earn include the Sailor Set, Eldegoss Set and Pit Crew Set, all of which have very low drop rates among their component items - typically between 1-2%

Other rewards include items that help you get ahead in the game. Aeos Coins can be used to purchase new Pokémon, while Aeos Tickets can be exchanged for several different things. Fashion Tickets can be swapped for clothing, and Holowear Tickets will net you different skins from the shop.

Item Enhancers are the real jewel among the consumable items, as they boost your Held Items' levels. This is really crucial in having your Pokémon be stronger than others, and is the source of the ongoing 'pay-to-win' controversy.

The ultimate reward from the Energy Rewards system is the Talonflame - Pilot Style Holowear skin, which comes with a border for your avatar, too.

Drop rates:

  • Talonflame - Pilot Style Holowear skin: 0.5%
  • Sailor, Eldegoss, Pit Crew Set items: 1-2%
  • Other clothing items: 1-3%
  • Aeos Coins x320: 10%
  • Aeos Ticket x200: 5%
  • Holowear Ticket x10: 3%
  • Fashion Ticket x20: 3%
  • Item Enhancer x10: 20%

Using Energy Tanks in Pokémon Unite

Remember when we said 1,400 Energy was the maximum you could obtain in a week? Well, this is where the gacha system comes in.

You can use real money to purchase Energy Tanks. There are three currently on offer:

  • Energy Boost Tank
  • Energy Boost Tank (4x Speed)
  • Extra-Energy Tank

The Extra-Energy Tank is the most straightforward. Costing 200 Aeos Gems (around $3.75), this will instantly grant you 1000 Bonus Energy. This tank allows you to circumvent the 1,400 weekly limit and keep pulling.

This is particularly important when you want to reach the maximum daily limit of 30 pulls (3,000 Energy spent).

The two Energy Boost Tanks are essentially the same thing. They don't increase your limits, but they do increase the amount of Energy you receive after a battle. They store 1,000 Energy.

The basic Energy Boost Tank costs 50 Aeos Gems and doubles the rate of Energy gain, while the second increases the gain four-fold and costs 200 Aeos Gems.

To equip them, go to the Energy Reward screen and press Y to bring up the tank list.

It's quite easy to rack up the spending in Pokémon Unite thanks to this system, the Held Item upgrades, and unlocking all the Pokémon on offer.
